Insanity vs. P90X: Which one is “better”?

I get asked that question a lot. The truth is, it depends on your own personal goals. I’ve done both workouts and decided to show a comparison here, to give an overview of both. Then, it’s up to you to decide.

It really all comes down to your goals and what kind of workout you prefer. Personal preference on who you want as your “personal trainer” will also come into play. Either way, P90X and Insanity are both intense workout programs, so the fact that you are here reading this already shows you are somewhat in shape and you want a challenge!

Let me just say that BOTH of these programs are awesome! My biggest problem when I first started was choosing which one to go with, myself. I ended up choosing Insanity first because I wanted to lose some body fat, and when I finished I began the P90X program. And yes, I lost body fat on both. I am currently on my second round of Insanity and I’m still seeing results.

To sum it up, if you want results, either one will do the trick! Tony Horton, with his sense of humor, and his words of encouragement to “Do your best and forget the rest”, will kick your butt every time.

And Shaun T, with his coach mentality, pushing you to “Dig Deeper” will, yes, kick your butt every time. It’s also very important not overlook a balanced nutrition plan, which is included in both packages.

So I hope you are a little closer to choosing the “right” program now than you were before. Or, maybe you’ll do what so many people do, and finish one, then move to the other! The main thing is, choose something and be consistent, even if you do just a little everyday, and you’ll be healthier, happier and closer to the new you!

  1. I am trying to decide on one of these workouts and I am leaning towards insanity. However I noticed your comment about already being “somewhat in shape” that made me question weather either of these workouts for me. I have been out of school 5 years, I cheered in high school and played softball for a year or so after but I had my first child 18 months ago. I am back down to my prepregnancy weight of 130 but I am far from “in shape”. I really want a high intensity work out that am going to feel results that don’t take years to get. Should I start with something like insanty or do you have anyother reccomendations. I am ready to get back to the healthy state I was in during the years after high school and quick! Help!

    1. I say you sound pretty ready to go for it, Amber! You’re already down to your pre-pregnancy weight? Hooray for you!!! That’s amazing all by itself! Especially since you cheered in high school, I picture you’re a girl who’s not afraid of a little sweat. Two things: 1) you can ALWAYS modify and work up to your max (when I first started I couldn’t even do the 10 minute warm-up), and 2) there’s a 30 day money back guarantee, so if you really feel you made a choice that didn’t suit you, you can send it back for another program.
